Soundbar Samsung HW-F450 has many advantages such as reasonable price, variety of connectivity options (including Bluetooth), wireless subwoofer, volume control of the TV remote control when connected via HDMI ARC or SoundShare. Probably, hardware of devices HW-F450, HW-F550 and HW-F750 is not much different, because the firmware on Samsung site is the same for all of this soundbars. However, there is a noticeable difference – compared to top models, HW-F450 have larger of midrange speackers that should have a positive impact on returns in the low frequencies. Therefore, buying the cheapest of the trio, we lose nothing, but rather only rejoice price/quality ratio. Apparently so HW-F450 more positive feedback on the more expensive models.
In general, solid pluses.
But a couple of drawbacks is impeding enjoy a bargain – a significant predominance of medium frequency relatively of treble and bass, that compounded by their inability to adjust due to the lack of an effective equalizer. There are only a few presets differ little from each other. In addition, on the mid-frequency sensed the acoustic resonance, like a megaphone at the rail-station. Not so strongly expressed, but clearly audible.
How can fix this? Well, lets say, unpleasant resonance can be damped sound-absorbing materials. But how to increase the level of treble and bass? Change tweeter more sensitive? To interfere with the electronics?
Nothing is required! There is a way much simpler – to reduce the level of middle frequencies. No special skills are not required for this. Suffice Phillips screwdriver and the ability not pierce it yourself eye.
Since each stereo channel soundbar we have two of the same Midrange, you can simply disable one of them. But then it will turn into a mute untuned phase shifter, which coincides with the resonance frequency of the remaining work-in speaker. This fact will adversely affect the uniformity of the frequency response and increase parasitic sounds.
Consequently paired speakers with each other will connect in series. They will work both, but with less impact, which is what we needed.
Make a start!
Turn off all the screws from the back side of the soundbar, open it and look inside.
As expected, no sound absorbing material is not present. From this it arises overtone as if to scream into the pan. This is fix in first. From roll non-woven kitchen napkins, like a thin dense layer of cotton, cut a few pieces and placed in the cavity on the back cover. Hold them is not required, as they will pressed of speakers back. In principle, is suitable any material that resembles cotton.
Now you have to rewire the dynamics of the parallel connection to the series. To do this, each speaker remove one wire from the pin – with the plus one, minus the other. And free contacts speakers interconnected wire cut, as in the photo below. If the unit is under warranty, the solder contacts are not desirable, since it will be difficult to return everything in the original form, if there was the need for warranty repair. Just twisted wire a few turns nice.
And I was lucky to find a cutting wires with the terminals.
The same can not forget to do another channel on the opposite side of the soundbar.
Thats it, now fasten the back cover and listen to the result. And we are pleased with the result.
Although now necessary turn up the volume, but with her were added previously missing treble and bass. The treble from muted back to the ringing. Even when turn off the equalizer presets, then treble enough. And appeared a small subwoofer volume reserve. Now, it is not always necessary to raised at maximum. And resonant overtone become almost invisible (at least without comparison with better acoustics).
